LANGLEY – With a birdie on the first playoff hole, Jackson’s L.B. Stave won the individual championship over Mount Vernon’s Ajae Slayton at the Class 4A District 1 boys golf tournament Tuesday.
Jackson qualified two of its five golfers for the state tournament, totalling 144 points in two rounds of play to take the team title over Cascade, which had 117 points. Besides Stave, Mike Hansen finished tied for 11th to qualify for the state tournament.
Tuesday’s final round was played at Useless Bay Golf and Country Club in Langley. The first round had been held at Gallery Golf Course in Oak Harbor.
Cascade (Chad Gorney 3rd, Justin Brundage 5th, Steve Peterson 5th) and Kamiak (Sam Pauley 4th, Matt Wedler 13th, Rollin Wood 13th) qualified three golfers each.
Baseball
Darrington 7, Evergreen Lutheran 2: Jordan Padgett was 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored to lead Darrington to the victory. Dallas Godwin had Darrington’s only extra base hit with a double.
