The Washington Stealth put together the final two goals of the game in a span of just over two minutes, and Luke Wiles scored the decisive goal with just 1:22 remaining to defeat the Calgary Roughnecks 12-11 Saturday night in National Lacrosse League action.
The win snapped a three-game losing skid for the Stealth, while defeating last season’s NLL champions.
The Stealth capitalized on the Roughnecks’ penalties, scoring on 3 of 5 power plays, and Washington held the Roughnecks to one goal in six power play chances.
Wiles’ game-winner gave the forward a hat trick in the game. Forward Jeff Zywicki scored the Stealth’s first two goals, as Washington raced out to a 4-1 lead after the first quarter.
Calgary trailed 6-5 at halftime, racking up four goals in the second quarter.
Washington’s Rhys Duch tallied four assists to go along with his two goals.
The Stealth remain atop the NLL West standings at 8-3, with second-place Edmonton Rush a half-game back.
