The Washington Stealth added five players to their roster Wednesday in the 2011 National Lacrosse League Entry Draft.

Washington didn’t have a selection in the first two rounds, but made up for lost time by picking five players in the final four rounds.

“Not picking until the third round, we thought it was going to be a quiet draft for us,” Stealth coach Chris Hall said. “But we are very pleased with the amount of talent we have joining the team. It’s going to be another spirited training camp, with these young guys really challenging for a roster spot.”

Washington made its first two selections back to back in the third round, grabbing forward Mike Mallory with the 21st overall pick and defenseman Adam McGourty at No. 22.

Mallory, a 20-year-old right-hander from Delta, B.C., played junior A lacrosse for the Delta Islanders. In two seasons, the 6-foot-2, 190-pound forward tallied 206 points (93 goals, 113 assists).

“Mike is a big kid (who) can shoot the ball and score a lot of goals on the right side, something we wanted to address going into the draft,” Hall said. “We get to watch a lot of games in British Columbia and he was one of our top-ranked right-handed forwards.”

With the very next pick, the Stealth selected McGourty, a right-handed defenseman from Brampton, Ontario. McGourty, 21, spent three seasons with the Brampton Excelsiors, tallying 36 points (13 goals, 23 assists).

“Adam was a big part of a very good defense in Brampton,” Hall said. “He’s aggressive and transitions the ball well from the defensive end and that’s something we are always looking for. We are pretty deep on the right side of our defense, but Adam’s tenacity and athleticism will have him challenging for a roster spot.”

In the fourth round, the Stealth chose left-handed forward Trevor Moore, a native of Port Coquitlam, B.C. Moore, 23, played collegiate lacrosse at Robert Morris University. He was the 2010 Northeast Conference Player of the Year after setting a school scoring record with 60 points (35 goals, 25 assists) in 15 games.

The Stealth’s final two selections were forward Brett Hickey from Windsor, Ontario, in the fifth round, and defenseman Justin Salt from New Westminster, B.C., in round six.
