Stewart leads M-P to Wesco North win

STANWOOD — Daimino Stewart won the triple jump and high jump and finished second behind teammate Dan Costello in the 200-meter dash as Marysville-Pilchuck won the Western Conference North meet Thursday versus Stanwood and Snohomish.

Stewart won the triple jump with a jump of 41 feet and won the high jump with a leap of 6-2.

Costello also won the 100.

"It was a good meet. We (all three teams) had some pretty good performances and we stayed out of the rain drops, which is good," Stanwood coach Paul Johnson said.

The Tomahawks dominated the 100 taking first through fourth in the race. Brian Kehler finished second in the 100 and also won the long jump.

Marysville-Pilchuck has won both of its meets this season.

Stanwood finished only six points behind the Tomahawks, finishing first in six of the 17 events.

Tate Summers led Stanwood with a first-place finish in the 110 hurdles and a second-place finish in the 300 hurdles. Summers also finished third in the discus.

Snohomish got two wins from Justin Brandt. Brandt won both long distance races, the 1600 and 3200.

Lake Stevens 80, Cascade 79, Mount Vernon 22: Clint Osborn won the shot put and the discus for Lake Stevens in the Wesco North meet. Cascade won the 400- and 1,600-meter relays. Freshman Eric Williams won the 200 and placed second in the 400 behind teammate Will Abbotsmoi.

Arlington 77, Monroe 67, Oak Harbor 35: Mike Ancira, Bryan Lucke and Nathan Waltman won two events apiece for Monroe, however, it wasn’t enough to defeat Arlington, which swept the relays, in the Wesco North meet.

Edmonds-Woodway 72, Jackson 69: Senior Paul Zavaglia of Edmonds-Woodway won the 110-meter hurdles, ran a personal best 300 hurdles and ran the first leg for the first-place 1,600 relay team. Glenn Gallagher won the 200, 400 and anchored the 1,600 relay. Johnie Kirton won the shot put and the discus for Jackson.

Kamiak 78, Shorecrest 67: Kamiak junior Chase Mancuso broke a school record in the discus, winning with a throw of 162 feet, 11 inches to top the former record of 160-1.5. Bobby Dockter won the shot put with a personal-best throw (49-0) for Kamiak, which outscored Shorecrest 26-1 in the throwing events in the Wesco South meet. For Shorecrest, Ikenna Acholonou won the 110- and 300-meter hurdle races; Jesse Hoffman won the 200 and the long jump, and Kiahn Larry won the 100 and the high jump. All three Scots set personal bests in each event.

Mariner 76, Meadowdale 69: Jerod Grant won both the 400-meter run and long jump and ran a leg on both relay teams to help Mariner win the Wesco South meet. Kevin Myhre placed first in the 110 and 300 hurdles for the Mavericks.
