SEATTLE — Breanna Stewart played just 13 minutes Sunday, but that was enough time to write her name in the Seattle Storm record book.
Stewart and Crystal Langhorne each scored 15 points to help the Storm beat the Dallas Wings 84-68 in the WNBA regular-season finale for both teams.
Stewart broke Lauren Jackson’s franchise record for points scored in a season with a 3-point field goal with 7:16 remaining in the second quarter. She scored two more points to end the game with 742 on the season. Jackson set the previous record in 2007 with 739 points.
Stewart finished the season averaging 21.8 points per game, second in the league. Her 742 points were the most scored in the WNBA this season. She also averaged 8.4 rebounds per game, good for third in the league
Point guard Sue Bird sat out Sunday’s game and Stewart played just 13 minutes. The game had no effect on the Storm’s No. 1 seeding for the upcoming WNBA playoffs.
Seattle (26-8) closed the regular season winning eight of its last nine games and will begin the playoffs in the semifinals with byes through the first two single-elimination rounds. Seattle will have home-court advantage throughout the postseason.
The Storm pulled away in the second quarter with an 18-5 run to lead 41-24. Dallas (15-19) cut it to 61-50 early in the third quarter before Seattle built its largest lead at 79-54 at the end of the third period.
Glory Johnson led the Wings with 16 points. Liz Cambage added 11 points, and Azura Stevens had 10.
