My friend Jerry Buron of Marysville loves to fish for chum, so he didn’t let my reports about old tired fish deter him from checking things out on the Skagit (near Rockport) for himself. He said he went looking for bull trout, but didn’t find up with some nice salmon that he released. Here’s Jerry’s report, via email:
I was beginning to come down with a serious case of “cabin fever” and knew the only treatment for this dreaded disease was to escape to a river or lake for some serious fishing! Several of my friends have been out recently and they decided to “sweep” the river from the seriously spawned fish and left us with some fish that were in pretty nice shape.
The attached photo is of my neighbor Rick Hardt with a nice chum salmon in the 16 pound.
Fishing was slow as a result of a very poor run this year of chum salmon. In fact we were really fishing for “Bull Trout” and just happened to run into several chums.
Nice day on the river but the fishing was slow. We each hooked and landed several fish and had several more on that we lost.
Weather was beautiful today! Cloudy and foggy early and then turned quite nice. Temperature never went above 39 degrees but when you’re dressed properly and fighting these fish one tends to stays warm!
