The Seattle Storm haven’t had too much of a problem playing defense this season — offense had been another story — at least until Saturday.
The Storm got offensive, putting a season-high 99 points, in an impressive 99-80 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks.
Seattle put up 32 points in the third quarter of the game and forward Swin Cash scored 16 of her 26 points in that period.
Keeping that kind of offensive effort in tact will be key as the team moves forward and they will try to match that effort today against a struggling Washington Mystics team.
The Mystics (2-8) have been battling injuries all season, but hope to have leading scorer Crystal Langhorne, and Alana Beard, who hasn’t played yet this season due to a foot injury, back for today’s game.
The Storm are looking for a sweep of the season series against the Mystics, they earned a 73-63 victory in Washington on July 3. Washington struggled offensively in that game without Langhorne and Beard against a solid Storm defensive effort.
But Seattle will look to continue to build on its offense.
“When you shoot the ball and it goes in, it makes your offense a lot better, obviously,” Storm head coach Brian Agler said. “We’re happy. Hopefully, we can stay on this path.
Aside from Cash, shooting guards Tanisha Wright and Katie Smith found their offensive rhythm on against the Sparks.
Both players had season-highs with 21 and 13 points respectively.
“It was good to see Katie knocking down some shots, T (Wright) getting to the paint and being aggressive. We need that. Hopefully this was the start and we’re going to get off this roller coaster and have another good performance on (today),” Cash said.
