Having gone 4-1 in their recent five game stretch against the Western Conference, the Storm welcome an Eastern Conference team to town tonight in the Sun.
Connecticut (12-6) comes into today in second place in the Eastern Conference, just a game behind the first place Indiana Fever (14-6). I
n the Storm’s only meeting with the Sun this season, which took place in Connecticut, they lost a close one, 75-70. The game came down to the final seconds, Sue Bird missed a three-pointer that would have tied the game, and Connecticut added a couple of free throws before time expired.
The Storm appear to be on the right track after their early season struggles and should be better than the team the Sun faced earlier in the year.
Tina Charles scored 20 points in that first meeting, and she will be a force inside that the Storm (11-8) have to try and stop tonight. Charles is currently fifth in the WNBA in scoring, averaging 17.8 points per game. She also leads the league in rebounding with 10.6 boards per contest.
Charles is a tough match for the Storm, but in the first match up, the Storm were starting Le’coe Willingham instead of the much taller Ashley Robinson.
Robinson, who stands 6-4, has come on of late, being a force inside for the Storm. Her shot blocking ability and rebounding have given the Storm a dominant presence inside that they have not had since center Lauren Jackson went down with a hip injury earlier in the season.
Having Robinson in the starting lineup should help the Storm be more successful this time around.
