SEATTLE — The Seattle Storm fired Jenny Boucek and promoted assistant Gary Kloppenburg to interim head coach for the remainder of the season.
The team announced the moves Thursday. The Storm (10-16) have lost four straight games and are fighting to make the playoffs.
Kloppenburg last was a head coach in Tulsa in 2012-13. He’s spent the last few years as an assistant, with Los Angeles and Indiana before Seattle. He also was an assistant for the Storm from 2000-02 under Lin Dunn.
The Storm have a talented roster led by Sue Bird, reigning rookie of the year Breanna Stewart and Jewell Loyd.
Seattle went 36-58 under Boucek since she was named head coach on Jan. 20, 2015. She was associate head coach with the Storm before that under Brian Agler. Boucek was also the head coach of the Sacramento Monarchs from 2007-2009.
