The Seattle Storm open the 2011 WNBA regular season at noon Saturday when they face the Phoenix Mercury at KeyArena.
Before the game the Storm will unveil the championship banner they earned in 2010 with a three-game sweep of the Atlanta Dream in the WNBA Finals.
Back are the core players — reigning WNBA MVP Lauren Jackson, as well as point guard Sue Bird and forward Swin Cash. The Storm will be without guard Svetlana Abrosimova and forward Jana Vesela this season, both players have obligations to their national teams. The Storm’s addition of the WNBA’s third all-time leading scorer, Katie Smith, should help make up for the loss of those two players as they look to repeat as WNBA champions.
