Storm third quarter run does in Shock

The Seattle Storm picked up a much needed win on Tuesday night, but it wasn’t easy. The Storm needed a second half comeback to defeat the Tulsa Shock 82-77.

The Storm trailed 37-31 at halftime, but outscored the Shock 30-13 in the third quarter to take the lead, and held on down the stretch t

o earn the win and improve to 3-2 on the season.

The win didn’t come without concern for the Storm, Lauren Jackson suffered a strained left hip in the first half and did not return. Staying healthy is always a concern for the Storm, but the injury could be a blessing in disguise for Seattle. Jackson had not been playing like her MVP-self so far this season — a few days off to give her body a little rest might not be such a bad thing.

One thing the Storm did much better on Tuesday was shoot the basketball. Seattle struggled to put the ball in the basket in last Friday’s victory over the Indiana Fever and in Sunday’s loss to the Los Angeles Sparks.

They appeared to right the ship on Tuesday, Seattle shot 31-for-57 (54.4 percent) from the field.

Point guard Sue Bird continued to be the Storm’s biggest offensive threat this season. Bird scored 21 points on 8-for-10 shooting, including 3-for-4 from beyond the three-point line. Forward Swin Cash continued her quietly superb season as well. Cash scored 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds for Seattle.

Tiffany Jackson had 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Shock (1-6).

Tuesday’s game was the Storm’s final tune-up before their rematch against the Minnesota Lynx on Friday at KeyArena. On June 9, Minnesota ended the Storm’s 23-game home winning streak with an 81-74 win at KeyArena.
