Scouting Report
The Seattle Storm are coming off a successful three-game road trip in which they finished 2-1. They look to continue that momentum tonight in front of their home crowd when they face the San Antonio Silver Stars.
The Storm are at the bottom end of a log jam of the Western Conference elite. A victory over the Silver Stars could go a long way toward keeping the Storm in the race for a homecourt advantage in the first round of the playoffs. Getting the top seed in the West is going to be very difficult after the Storm’s 92-67 loss to the current top seed Minnesota Lynx last Friday. The Lynx currently hold a 31/2 game lead on the Storm and hold the tie-breaker by winning the season series 3-1.
The Silver Stars, however, are within striking distance. The Storm trail San Antonio by just 11/2 games for the second seed in the West. If things go right for the Storm today, Seattle could find themselves in third place in the West just a half game behind the San Antonio with a 2-1 lead in the season series.
Needless to say it’s a pretty big game.
For the Storm to be successful they need a defensive performance like the last one they delivered in a 73-55 victory over the Silver Stars at KeyArena on July 21.
Another offensive performance like the one point guard Sue Bird had on Saturday in an 89-72 victory over the Tulsa Shock couldn’t hurt either. Bird scored a season-high 29 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished seven assists.
The Storm are 6-1 this season at KeyArena.
