Okay … so the Minnesota Lynx did shoot 22-for-34 (64.7%) in the first half and the Storm did shoot 9-for-32 (28.1%). That statistic alone could explain the Lynx 50-24 halftime lead over the defending champion Storm.
But that isn’t the whole story — it goes a lot deeper than making or missing shots.
The bottom line, the Lynx are playing defense and most importantly playing with heart.
The Storm aren’t.
The Storm Minnesota forward Rebekkah Brunson to go off for 18 points on 8 of 9 shooting. Lynx Rookie, Maya Moore, hasn’t missed a shot, going 4-for-4 with eight points. Brunson has grabbed eight rebounds and point guard Lindsay Whalen has dished eight assists.
No Storm player has more than six points.
Dating back to 2009, when the Storm’s 23-game home winning streak started with a playoff victory over the Phoenix Mercury, one constant has been heart and pride in protecting their home floor.
The Storm have erased deficits, they have held off furious rallies. They have done everything they have had to do to win.
It is highly unlikely that the Storm will win tonight and continue that 23-game home winning streak. It will be telling to see if they show the heart and pride in the second half that helped them establish the mark.
