SEATTLE — Point guard Sue Bird became the second Seattle Storm player in as many weeks to win the WNBA’s Western Conference Player of the Week award.
Forward Swin Cash won the award last week.
Bird was given the award for games played July 5-10. She led the Storm to a 1-1 record, averaging 19 points and 6.5 assists per game.
Bird scored 21 points on 7-for-9 shooting in a road loss to Indiana on July 5. She followed that with a 17 point performance in Saturday’s 99-80 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks.
Bird, who won the award for the fourth time in her career, is averaging 15.5 points, 2.6 rebounds and 5.5 assists this season. The Storm are 6-4 this season and currently hold the No.4 seed in the West, but are only a game behind the San Antonio Silver Stars and Minnesota Lynx for the top seed.
