Without center Lauren Jackson, someone has had to pick up the scoring load for the Seattle Storm, in most cases it has been forward Swin Cash. Tuesday, Cash was recognized for her recent efforts by being awarded the Western Conference Player of the Week for games played between June 27 and July 3.
Cash led the Storm to a 1-1 record in the week, averaging 22 points and eight rebounds per game. In a 75-70 loss to Connecticut on July 1, Cash scored a season-high 25 points and grabbed nine rebounds, she shot a perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line as well.
For the season, Cash is averaging 15.6 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. This is the fifth time in her career that she has won the Player of the Week award.
In the Eastern Conference, Connecticut’s Tina Charles picked up the award for the second time this season.
Charles led the Sun to a 2-0 record, averaging 21 points and 16.5 rebounds per game for the week.
