SEATTLE — Seattle Storm star Lauren Jackson had surgery on her right ankle Thursday in Australia.
Storm coach Brian Agler spoke to Jackson as she was walking out of the hospital in Sydney following the surgery. Jackson told Agler that a bone spur, which had lodged in her ankle joint, was removed and some scar tissue was cleaned up.
“She was walking. She was weight bearing and she did a little bit of rehab,” Agler said.
Jackson made the surgery decision while she was playing for Australia at the Olympics in Beijing. She had injections in her ankle to get through the Olympics, where Australia took a silver medal after losing to the United States.
Jackson, the reigning WNBA MVP, is expected to be sidelined for four to six weeks, which would mean any return to the Storm would be during the WNBA playoffs. She’s expected to return to Seattle following a second doctor’s appointment on Sept. 8.
