EVERETT — The Mariner boys basketball team won just three games in 2016-17, but already has two victories this season. The Marauders’ ultimate win total will be determined by their defensive effort, coach Tevin Dillon said.
“If we play defense, we can be a team that wins a lot of games,” Dillon said. “We have guys that can play, guys that can run. Our season will rely solely on how hard we play on the defensive side of the ball. We can be a playoff team and win a ton of games or be .500 or less depending on how we want to play.”
On the offensive end, Mariner (2-5) will be more balanced than it was last season.
“Dwan Mallett can shoot from the outside and creates well inside. He’s a good all-around player,” Dillon said. “Tony MacArthur rebounds the (heck) out of the ball. Edwin Bouah is a really good defender, streaky as far as shooting goes, but can get into the paint really well. And Diego Septimo-Ruiz is a big-time shooter.”
