The Connecticut Sun have the best record in the Eastern Conference, and the Phoenix Mercury earned their first win of the season this week and for that, among other reasons, players from each team were honored with the WNBA Player of the Week award for games played June 13-19.
Connecticut’s Tina Charles took the honor in the Eastern Conference. Charles helped the Sun win both of their games this week, scoring 26 points against Washington and 31 points against Chicago. Charles, the 2010 WNBA rookie of the year, is averaging 20.4 points and eight rebounds per game this season.
Dupree averaged 15 rebounds per game this week for the Mercury, setting a franchise record with 18 rebounds and also scoring 21 points in Phoenix’s 93-89 victory over the Indiana Fever. Dupree scored 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in a 101-99 loss to the San Antonio Silver Stars last Friday.
This is the fourth such award Dupree has won in her career.
