In an effort to give the fans an inside look at some of the people who have brought so much celebration to Seattle, The Herald will take a closer look at two Seahawks players each day this week.

Kelly Herndon

Position: Cornerback

Number: 31

College: Toledo

Age: 29

What will you remember most about the 2005 Seahawks?

“How everybody on this team, all the players and the coaches, came together from Day 1. We all had the mindset that if we were going to make it to the top, we’d have to believe in each other. Starting in the mini-camps and training camp, we’ve just been grinding it out and we made ourselves a Super Bowl team.”

What will you be doing one month from now?

“I’ll be somewhere out of the states, somewhere warm, vacationing, just relaxing, and soaking everything in about going to the Super Bowl.”

Outside of football, what’s the one thing you want to do in Detroit?

“I’ll be spending time with my friends. I played at (the University of) Toledo and that’s real close to Detroit. I have a lot of friends that are still in Toledo and I want to catch up with them.”

What’s your favorite memory from Super Bowls past?

“I used to like the Steelers when I was young. That was when they had Mean Joe Greene and those guys. When they were winning Super Bowls, I liked that. But now I’ve got to keep that in the past.”

What’s your favorite way to unwind away from football?

“I like going to the movies. My favorite movie in the last year was ‘Ray.’”

What teammate do you like to tease, and why?

“If it was anybody it would probably be (linebacker) Kevin Bentley. We just kind of crack jokes at each other.”

D.D. Lewis

Position: Linebacker

Number: 54

College: Texas

Age: 27

What will you remember most about the 2005 Seahawks?

“I’ll remember the chemistry and the unity we had this year. My previous three years (with the Seahawks) it was totally different. This year there’s a lot of camaraderie, a lot of selflessness. You don’t have a lot of ‘I’ on this team. You have a lot of ‘us’ and ‘we.’ The other thing I’ll remember about this team, hopefully, is winning the Super Bowl.”

What would you be doing if you weren’t playing football?

“I’d be an ambassador for God, more as a professional as far as speaking and ministering. If not that, then probably in real estate.”

What will you be doing one month from now?

“Hopefully in Hawaii.”

Outside of football, what’s the one thing you want to do in Detroit?

“I want to go to the gospel celebration they’re going to have. But it’s football first, so if that’s going to interfere I won’t go.”

What’s your favorite way to unwind away from football?

“I spend time with my family. Sometimes just watching my son do stuff. I like to take him places, like bowling or to Chuck E. Cheese’s. It’s a big joy for me when I see my kid having fun.”

What teammate do you like to tease, and why?

“Kaz (Isaiah Kacyvenski) is probably the easiest one to tease. He just gets all riled up.”
