Swerk leads Meadowdale girls to overtime win

SHORELINE – Meadowdale’s Jennie Swerk hit a layup with one second remaining in overtime to give the Mavericks a 55-53 victory over Shorewood Thursday night in a Wesco South girls basketball game.

The win keeps Meadowdale (14-0 in league, 14-2 overall) perfect in Wesco South play and in control of first place, while Shorewood drops to 7-6, 7-8.

Swerk and Anne Martin each scored 16 points for Meadowdale.

For Shorewood, Nanda McCormack had a game-high 25 points and nine steals.

Lake Stevens 105, Mount Vernon 65: Even a necklace couldn’t get in the way of the Lake Steven’s boy’s swimming team.

Despite Max Hinricksen’s disqualification from the 500-yard freestyle race because he a wore a necklace, therefore breaking the no-jewelry rule, the Vikings rolled to a win over Mount Vernon in a Wesco North meet.

Hinricksen did win his other race of the day in the 200 freestyle by .60 of a second.

Also leading the Lake Steven’s charge was Owen Todd and D.P. Stone who each won two individual events and swam on both of the Viking’s victorious relay teams.
