T-birds squeak by Kamiak

MUKILTEO – Shorewood outlasted the Kamiak Knights in a dramatic Western Conference South Division boys tennis meet, 4-3 Wednesday afternoon at Kamiak High School.

With the meet tied 3-3 and only No. 1 singles yet to finish, Shorewood’s Nomar Mapalo was taken to the limit by Kamiak’s Edwin Lee. With the match tied one set apiece and the deciding third set knotted at 4-4, Mapalo broke Lee and the Knights, winning the set 6-4 and taking the match 6-1, 6-7 (7-5), 6-4.

“I was so proud of Edwin, Nomar is the best player in the conference,” Kamiak coach Vic Alinen said.

Shorewood (10-3 in league and overall) now sits in third place by themselves, one game ahead of Kamiak (9-4, 9-4) and one game behind Jackson (11-2, 11-2) for second place.

Archbishop Murphy 3, Granite Falls 0: At Everett, Patti Reeves had 23 assists, three kills and three digs to lead Archbishop Murphy (5-2 league, 6-3 overall) to the 25-14, 25-19, 25-23 Cascade Conference victory. Granite Falls fell to 1-6, 1-8.

King’s 3, Sultan 0: At Sultan, Sara Mosiman had 10 kills and 10 aces, and Kailey Troutmann had 10 kills and three aces to lead King’s (7-0 league, 8-0 overall) to the 25-13, 25-16, 25-9 Cascade Conference victory. Sultan fell to 1-7, 3-7.
