For the second straight day, Tarvaris Jackson was limited in practice while backup QB Charlie Whitehurst took the bulk of the reps. While no decision will be announced until tomorrow at the soonest, and possible even on Sunday, it is looking more and more like Whitehurst will get the start.
And whatever happens, Whitehurst says he’ll be ready to go.
“We’ll see what happens, who’s under center,” Whitehurst said. “But I’m confident if my number is called I’ll perform.”
Whitehurst’s teammates are also confident in their backup QB if Jackson can’t play.
“Nobody questions whether or not he’s ready to go or whether or not he can get it done,” said receiver Mike Williams. “He’s played well on a big stage for us. . . The locker room has a lot of confidence in him and the coaches have a lot of confidence in him.”
As an added bonus, Williams points out, adjusting to the voice of Whitehurst, who grew up in Georgia, isn’t too difficult since Jackson is from Alabama.
“As far as enunciation, they both have a southern drawl, so it’s not going to sound much different to us,” Williams said.
