EVERETT – The Mountlake Terrace girls basketball team kept its playoff hopes alive with a important 57-55 Western Conference South Division victory Friday night at Everett High School.
Mountlake Terrace (8-9 in league and 8-11 overall) pulled away from a halftime tie to defeat Everett (8-8, 8-10).
Tatiana Heck of Mountlake Terrace led all scorers with 17 points.
In the decisive fourth quarter, the Hawks outscored the Seagulls 17-8.
“Mountlake Terrace had good free-throw shooting in the fourth quarter,” Everett junior varsity coach Kim Pearson said.
Behind 57-53, Everett hit a lay-in with two seconds left for the final score.
Megan Homer paced Everett with 12 points.

Kamiak 48, Lynnwood 38: Marci Garski shot 10-for-14 from the field and made all four of her free throws en route to 24 points to lead Kamiak to the Wesco South victory. Ashley Vick added 10 points and nine rebounds for the Knights. Alexa Breidenbach led Lynnwood with 11 points.

Jackson 53, Shorewood 43: Junior forward Sam McCracken scored 11 of her team-high 15 points in the second half to help Jackson fight off Shorewood’s rally and keep the Timberwolves in the running for the fourth and final Wesco South Class 4A district tournament berth. Meridian 42, Granite Falls 40: Chelsey Huffman made a free throw with 12 seconds to go to put Meridian ahead 41-40. Granite Falls was unable to get a good shot off before Meridian added another free throw to clinch the North Cascades victory. Casey Jensen had a team-high 12 points, nine rebounds and four assists for Granite Falls. Nichole Megard, Jensen’s teammate, blocked eight shots and scored nine points.
