Terrace improves to 5-0 in Wesco South

Lynnwood – Mountlake Terrace remained undefeated and on top in the Wesco South following a 36-26 victory over Meadowdale Thursday.

The Mavericks’ (2-2 in league, 3-4 overall) Kai Bruno (130 pounds) started the evening with a decisive 16-0 technical fall victory. “Watching Kai is like watching a clinic,” Hawks’ coach Kanoe Vierra said.

The next three bouts were won by Mountlake Terrace (4-0, 7-1). Bryce Call (135) pinned his opponent, Mike Brady (140) scored an escape in triple overtime to win a 6-5 decision, and Kody Cundy (145) achieved a three-point near fall at the end of the third period to defeat the Mavericks’ Tony Yen in a bout Vierra called “thrilling.”

The Hawks do not have long to enjoy their status as division leaders. In the next two weeks they have meets with third-place Kamiak (3-1, 8-5) and second-place Everett (4-0, 6-0).

“It just doesn’t get easier, the toughest part of the schedule is ahead.” Vierra said.
