Terrace soccer star sets school record for goals — again

Bobby Stoyanov’s single-game scoring record didn’t last long.

Less than two weeks after making school history with seven goals in a March 16 win over Granite Falls, the Mountlake Terrace soccer standout broke his own record with eight goals in a 9-0 victory over Stanwood on March 27.

The senior forward needed approximately 60 minutes to pull off the record-breaking feat, Hawks coach George Dremousis said.

“When Bobby gets locked in, he’s going to score pretty much every time he gets through (the defense),” Dremousis said. “We just kept sliding him really nice through balls, (and) he was making diagonal runs, getting by the last defender and just finishing.”

Midway through the 16-match regular season, Stoyanov has scored 28 goals — more than any other Wesco team. He needs just three more to match the single-season school record of 31 goals set by Dana Garner in 1996.

Stoyanov has scored at least six goals in three of his past six matches.

“He thinks he has a 10-goal game in him this year,” Dremousis said. “If someone were to tell me that at any time in my career, I would say there’s no way that’s possible for anybody.

“But now, from what I’ve seen, I’m like, ‘All right, I can believe it.’”
