The Silvertips conducted exit interviews with the players this morning. I talked with general manager Doug Soetaert, coach Craig Hartsburg and several players, and everyone expressed their dissatisfaction with the way this season went. Their views, both of this season and next season, will be shared in the articles that run in the paper the next two days.
Some of Everett’s players, however, may still have some hockey left to play. As of this morning defenseman Ryan Murray had yet to hear if he’d be joining Canada’s team for the U-18 World Championships, which take place this month in Germany. However, given Murray was the only 16-year-old on Canada’s team last year, and that he served as captain at the U-18 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament last summer when Canada had access to all its player rather than just those no longer in the playoffs, and you’d have to think it’s a mere formality. Also, forward Landon Ferraro and defenseman Rasmus Rissanen may get a chance to get some games in the AHL. Ferraro already signed with Detroit, so he’s eligible. But Ferraro is still ailing from his groin injury and may be asked to just rest. Rissanen would need to sign with Carolina in order to play in the AHL, and it’s unknown whether the Hurricanes intend to sign him.
Finally, I’ll be posting my annual season-ending blog series soon. I’m not sure exactly when I’ll be able to get this started, but my rough schedule is something like this:
