The Timberwolves win all five divisions at the Northwest Junior Football League Championships

The 6-year-old Silver Lake Football Association made history Saturday by winning all five division titles at the Northwest Junior Football League Championships at Nathan Hale High School in Seattle.

Not since 1992, when the league was known as Richmond Junior Football, has an association swept all the divisions, SLFA president Mark Squires said.

“It was an incredible thing to watch,” said Squires, who along with Larry Kolbe formed the Everett-based association in 1998. “Larry and I were the ones who started this thing and for two or three years we watched our teams getting beat. It was an incredible sense of accomplishment watching these kids grow.”

In the junior division (ages 12-14, no weight limit) on Saturday, two Silver Lake teams met for the title, with the Silver Lake Timberwolves Green team downing the Silver Lake Timberwolves White 18-6. The victory capped a 9-0 season for the Green squad, which will represent the SLFA at the third annual National Youth Pigskin Tournament on Nov. 25-28 in Las Vegas.

The Green team was coached by Mike Crecelius, Garland Bryant, Bob Justice Terry Roberson, Billy Russo, Dave Groff, Stan Wrubluski and Eddie McMillan. Team members included Reginald Moore, Matt Groff, Oscar Rivera, Janeiro Fernandez, Sean Anderson, Ernest Mitchell Jr., Jesse Thacker, Tyler Bryant, Brian Buzzo, Ray Roberts, Tyrone Brisbois, Ryan Lawson, Tyler D’Souza, Ben Chumney, Sean Stickney, Eddie Flournoy, Corey Gonzalez, Chelsie Crecelius, Cameron Kurtz, Taylor Cox, Shane Phipps, Chace Justice, Damascus Purnell and Bryant Dickerson.

Saturday’s 5-for-5 run started with the Silver Lake Timberwolves 89er Green team avenging its only loss of the season by upsetting the previously undefeated Richmond Bulldogs Blue squad 18-7. Silver Lake finished the season with an 8-1 record.

The team, made up of players ages 7 to 9, included Jake Wiggins, Chris Watkins, Tommy Lynch, Killian McGuire, Shaun Gleckler, Antoine Whitaker, Colby Snider, Jared Squires, Austin Chiaravalle, Cody Vigoren, Bradly Strong, Sean Chavez, Matthew Chavez, Cameron Gomke, Danny Crissinger, Michael Coughlin, Josh May, Russel Anderson, Ryan Lukas, Kyle Jensen, and Jacob Thomas. The team was coached by Duke Snider, Paul Lukas, Jeremy Wiggins and Mike Coughlin.

In the midget division, the SilverLake Timberwolves Green team defeated the Interbay Eagles 19-13 in overtime to complete a 9-0 season. The midget squad was made of players ages 9-12.

The roster included Danny Davis, Ryan Frye, Dalston Byrd, Bo Torres, Zach Byrd, D.J. Marik, Jared Clark, Christopher Calbo, Zachary Petracca, Aaron Squires, Waylon Trim, Cody Hilcoske, Josh Hammond, Steven Waldon, Justin Yamamoto and Ian Strong. The team was coached by Dave Byrd, Erik Clark, Mike Carey, Tony Davis and Dave Munger.

The Silver Lake Timberwolves Pee-Wee Green team continued the run by beating the Lake City Braves 26-6 to complete its second straight undefeated season (9-0). Last year, the team won the midget division.

The team, made up of players ages 10-13, included Blake Torres, Jared Mead, Travis Blades, Sam Brown, Taylor Mead, Lucas Nickell, Adrian Farias, Brennan Sanchez, Corbin Duffy, Daniel McDonald, Cody Jacobs, Walker Evans, Kyle Gage, Ben Karlick, Drake Kummerle, Patrick Michael, Max Kenmir, Sean Roe, Jake Clark, Grady Finnerty, Jeff Walters and Cameron McCracken. The Timberwolves were coached by Louis Torres, Bill Evans, Rob Brown and Dave Finnerty.

In the bantam division, the Silver Lake Timberwolves White team beat the Richmond Bulldog Gold squad 20-7 to finish off an 8-0 season and its fourth straight title. The team, coached by Kevin Blades and Jeff Graham, has won its division every year since 2001.

The roster included Marshall Massingale, Jordan Cain, Andy Gay, Riley Richardson, Cole Plummer, Jonny Varriano, Jordan Duffy, Anthony McDonald, Geno Watson, Geoff Watson, Ronnie Sigurdson, Peter Oh, Alexander Dively, Mike Wishko, Jacob Oster, Tanner Wang and Antonio Mortera.

The Silver Lake Football Association is the largest in the NJFL. This year, the association fielded 11 teams that drew 237 players. The association also fielded a 19-member cheer squad.

And guess what?

“Our cheerleaders also won the cheer competition,” Squires said.
