Third-quarter surge helps Panthers beat Mount Vernon

MOUNT VERNON – Behind by three points at the half, the Snohomish boys basketball team turned up its defensive pressure and outscored Mount Vernon by nine points in the third quarter en route to an 81-68 victory in the Wesco 4A game.

Snohomish’s Nate Holzer topped all scorers with 23 points, while teammate Ryan Sommer finished with 19.

Kyle Kendrick’s shooting kept Mount Vernon on top in the opening half. He finished with 30 points and nine rebounds.

Scott Shine and Josh Vanlandingham also added 14 and 10 points, respectively, for the Panthers.
