Three area prep teams win WIAA academic awards

Stanwood girls swimming and diving, Cedarcrest girls soccer and King’s girls soccer were honored.

The Washington Athletic Interscholastic Activities Association announced its academic state champions for the fall sports season, and three area programs received honors.

The scholastic awards program recognizes the team with the highest grade-point average among all schools in their enrollment classification.

Stanwood’s girls swimming & diving program was the winner in Class 3A, as the eight Spartans counted towards the award averaged a 3.878 GPA.

Cedarcrest’s girls soccer program took hom the crown in Class 2A, with 20 players averaging a 3.912 GPA.

The 1A girls soccer title was a tie, with King’s and Montesano each recording a 3.858. Seventeen players from King’s contributed to the Knights’ total.

All of the winning teams will be honored at their respective state tournaments later in November.
