Three local little league all-star teams advanced to state tournaments after capturing district titles.
The North Everett Little League junior all-stars defeated the North Snohomish all-stars 11-1 in 6 innings on July 9 at Kasch Park to win the District 1 championship.
The Mill Creek Little League 11-year-old and 12-year-old all-star teams also won their divisions at District 1 tournaments – and did so in convincing fashion.
Mill Creek’s 11-year-old team went 5-0 in the district tournament and defeated South Mukilteo 21-0 in the title game on July 9 at Mill Creek Sports Complex. The 11-year-olds outscored their opponents 74-7 in 23 innings of tournament play.
The 12-year-old team from Mill Creek captured the district title with a 17-0 defeat of Sky Valley on July 8 at the Mukilteo Sports Complex. The 12-year-olds also went 5-0 in their tournament, outscoring opponents 55-5.

In winning the third district title in league history and first since 2000, the North Everett juniors went 8-1 and outscored their opponents 109-27 in the tournament hosted by the South Everett Little League.
The North Everett team was comprised of Tyler Arnestad, Cameron Arriza, Christian Giron, Lucas Henry, Eric Nagel, Mickey Norton, Brandon Olson, Edmond Overton, Christian Smith, Brendon Soelling, Lucas Sontra, Oscar Terran, Scott Wayland and Dylan Wetmore.
Players for Mill Creek’s 11-year-old all-star team were Jason Todd, Jax Stoll, Joakim Soderqvist, Blake Ozuna, Derrick Mahlum, Alec Kisena, Dan Kingma, Alex Jondal, Daniel Jang, Casey Dawes, Matt Buerger, Alek Baumgartner and Duncan Bartok.
The 12-year-old all-star team from Mill Creek was comprised of Brendan Chong, Shaun Gleckler, Kyle Graff, Brian Hughes, Colby Johansen, Josh Lang, Ryan Lauerman, Sam Lee, Carlo Nunag, Talor Okada, Conor Plaisance, Jeremy Spring and Sam Stoddard.
Basketball
Mill Creek team finishes second at Hoopfest: The Drizzle, a team of 13-year-old girls from Mill Creek, went 5-2 and finished second in its bracket at the 2007 Spokane Hoopfest held June 30-July 1.
The Drizzle was comprised of Kristin Stoffel, Tia Carrillo, Mary Johnson and Haley Goff.
More than 24,000 competitors played in Hoopfest 2007. The event is regarded as the largest outdoor 3-on-3 basketball tournament in the world.
Local girls win Triple Shot 3-on-3: The Twisterz, a group of 5th grade girls from Snohomish County, went undefeated and won the 5th-6th grade division of the Triple Shot 3-on-3 Basketball tournament held July 8-9 in Cle Elum, WA.
Coached by 2003 Monroe High School graduate and former Lady Bearcat player Kristen Dunseth-Orth, the team was made up of Alayna Brand, Midori McElwee, Colleen Nuss, and Sarah Winebrenner.
Twisterz finished the tournament 5-0.
Motorcycle racing
Masset earns two top-10 finishes at Black Cat Gold: T.J. Masset, 11, recorded two top-10 finishes at the American Motorcycle Association Black Cat Gold Dirt Track Grand Championship held July 1-7 at the State Fairgrounds in Du Quoin, Ill.
Masset, who has been riding competitively since 1999, finished third in the 65cc mod class and sixth in the 85cc mod class.
More than 800 riders competed at the championship, which crowned the nation’s top amateur dirt-track riders in 25 classes.
