The South Whidbey volleyball team (15-5) won two 1A Bi-district tournament games Saturday to clinch a return trip to the state tournament.
“Defense has always been our forte,” Falcons coach Mandy Jones said. “We’ve always been really scrappy, and we don’t let balls fall without giving 110 percent. We’re able to read the (opposing) hitters really well. We’re all over the place (on defense).”
South Whidbey is led by three seniors — outside hitter Kolby Heggenes, middle blocker Megan Miller and setter Bailey Todd.
“Kolby is a natural leader. She’s really smart mentally on the court, and the other players lean on her. We rely on (junior outside hitter) Emma Leggett a lot. And Bailey is just good — really good. She’s quick to the ball, she’s got a loud voice and she fills the ‘quarterback’ role really well. She puts up amazing sets for our hitters, and is great on defense.”
