Washington Stealth defenseman Matt Beers was named to the 2010 National Lacrosse League All-Rookie Team on Thursday.
Beers, from Coquitlam, B.C., was the 13th overall selection in the 2009 NLL entry draft. He helped anchor a defensive unit that helped Washington reach the NLL title game.
The 6-foot-3, 200-pound Beers finished the regular season with two goals, eight assists, 90 loose balls and a team-high 67 penalty minutes.
Two of Beer’s teammates, forwards Rhys Duch and Lewis Ratcliff, earned second-team NLL All-Pro honors.
Orlando Titans forward Casey Powell was named the 2010 NLL Most Valuable Player. Stephan Leblanc, whose Toronto team plays Washington on Saturday for the NLL championship, was named rookie of the year.
