Not surprisingly, Matt Hasselbeck sat out practice again Thursday with a hip injury, leaving the first-team reps to Charlie Whitehurst.
As for Whitehurst, he said the experience of playing a few games should help and that he’s looking forward to starting this weekend (assuming Hasselbeck doesn’t make it back).
“I’m ready to start and get a win for this team,” he said. “This is a huge opportunity for us and we’re still in it. We thought it would come down to this last game and it has.”
Offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates isn’t worried that Whitehurst will be overwhelmed if he does indeed start a game to decide the NFC West: “He’s a pretty mellow guy. He has good poise. I think he’s going to be fine.”
In another bit of news it sounds like offensive line change could be on the horizon once again this season. When asked about the play of his line, Bates said: “We’re going to continue to change to give us the best chance to win.”
