The San Antonio Silver Stars moved one step closer to clinching the fourth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference on Thursday night with an 86-68 victory over the Phoenix Mercury.
With the loss, the Mercury fall into a tie for second place in the West with the Seattle Storm. The two teams face each other Sept. 9 at KeyArena. The Silver Stars also increased their lead over the Los Angeles Sparks to two games for the final playoff spot in the West.
Jia Perkins led San Antonio (15-15) with 23 points. DeWanna Bonner also scored 23 to lead the Mercury (17-13).
In Thursday’s other game, the Washington Mystics scored an 85-81 victory over the Atlanta Dream to end a nine-game losing streak.
Crystal Langhorne scored 25 points to lead the Mystics (6-24). Angel McCoughtry led the Dream (16-14) with 30.
