DETROIT — Tigers manager Brad Ausmus has been suspended for one game and fined after his histrionic ejection from Monday night’s game against Minnesota.
Ausmus is serving the suspension Tuesday night against the Twins. Bench coach Gene Lamont is managing in his place.
Ausmus was ejected in the fourth inning Monday for arguing a called third strike in Detroit’s 10-8 win. During the argument, he took off his sweatshirt and used it to cover up home plate.
The commissioner’s office said in a statement about an hour before Tuesday’s game that Ausmus was being disciplined for “excessive arguing and his inappropriate actions following his ejection.
