Everett made a move to help deal with the potential player losses over the holiday season, acquiring 19-year-old defenseman Curtis Kulchar from Kamloops in exchange for a fifth-round pick in the 2011 bantam draft.
Kulchar, a 6-foot-1, 190-pound native of Martensville, Saskatchewan, has appeared in 130 games over four season in the WHL, split between Regina, Vancouver and Kamloops, totalling three goals, eight assists and 130 penalty minutes. This season he had four assists and 28 penalty minutes in 26 games for the Blazers.
This move provides cover on defense for the Tips. Everett loses top defensemen Radko Gudas and Ryan Murray for several games because of international obligations, and the Tips could also lose defenseman Rasmus Rissanen as well. Kulchar will help fill the void. I’ll be curious, however, to see what happens after those players return from international duty.
