Rested, tanned, and not entirely ready to come back to work after a two-week vacation to California, Arizona and Utah, I was thrown back into the fire with game four of the Silvertips playoff run against the Spokane Chiefs. The Tips were down 3 games to none and facing season ending elimination with one more loss. Friday night hockey means a 7:30pm drop, which is 30 minutes later than normal which means the time crunch for deadline is on. Being game four, if the Tips lost, news wanted a photo as well as sports. Just more work to do and more photos to think about.
Going into the third and final period, the Silvertips were down 1-0 and not looking good to come back. But they scored two goals in the last eight minutes, the tying goal came with less than a minute to play, and sent the game to overtime. Needless to say, the players were ecstatic. They had extended their season for another 20 minutes. However, 12 mintues, 21 seconds into the overtime period, Spokane scored and ended the Silvertips season. The emotions of the players say it all.
