The Tips have signed their first pick from this year’s bantam draft, Ryan Chynoweth, to a WHL education contract.
Chynoweth, a 15-year-old center, was taken in the second round, 24th overall this spring. He impressed during rookie scrimmages with his all-around game, and he was the only 15-year-old who was held over this week. Given his father is Kootenay general manager Jeff Chynoweth, it was never a threat that he wouldn’t be committed to the WHL.
By signing his contract Chynoweth is eligible to play in this weekend’s exhibition games during the Holiday Inn Preseason Classic at Comcast Arena.
