We’ve reached the moment.
The Everett Silvertips have won 12 straight. The franchise record for consecutive wins is 13 set during the first half of the 2006-07 season. Win Friday night’s home game against the Portland Winterhawks and this season’s team is ensconced in the record books. Check tomorrow’s paper for a story that includes a few comparisons between the 06-07 and 09-10 teams.
However, to accomplish the task the Tips must overcome an imposing Portland team. The Winterhawks have a winning record against Everett this season: 4-3. Portland is also a deep team with lots of big, fast, strong, skilled forwards. And to top it off the Winterhawks are expecting to have former NHL defenseman Luca Sbisa in the lineup for the first time since acquiring his rights at the trade deadline.
Sbisa’s arrival is well-timed for Portland, which may be without defenseman Eric Doyle because of an ankle sprain. Everett’s only injury is to left wing Dan Iwanski, who will not play as he continues to recover from a knee injury.
Will the Tips make it lucky 13?
