Tips Week in Review: Everett splits at Prince George, beats Victoria

Eric Jamieson’s hat trick against Victoria highlights Presidents’ Day Weekend

The Everett Silvertips wrapped up their five-game road trip on Presidents’ Day, defeating Victoria 3-2 after splitting a two-game weekend series against Prince George on Friday and Saturday.

The Silvertips (39-10-4-3, 85 points) remain atop the WHL standings. After becoming the first team this season to clinch a playoff berth last week, three other teams – Medicine Hat, Spokane and Victoria – have also punched their ticket with just over a month to go in the regular season.

Everett 3, Prince George 1

Exceptional status defenseman Landon DuPont showed some offensive prowess to open the scoring on Friday, ripping a shot from the right circle past Cougars goalie Joshua Ravensbergen on the power play at 8:28 of the first period.

Prince George tied it at 16:33 of the first with a goal from Matteo Danis, but Everett regained the lead at 19:24 after winger Dominik Rymon cut through the left circle into the slot and sent a backhand shot on net, which center Tyler MacKenzie rebounded in from the right post.

The Silvertips held their 2-1 lead through the rest of the game, with goalie Raiden LeGall (27 saves) coming up with big stops down the stretch. The 18-year-old put the cherry on top of his performance – or rather ‘apple’ – by assisting defenseman Eric Jamieson’s empty-net goal at 18:49 of the third period to clinch the 3-1 win.

Prince George 5, Everett 1

Despite holding a 10-8 shots on goal advantage through the first period, the Silvertips would be blown back following a four-goal second period from the Cougars.

It was another shaky outing from Everett goalie Jesse Sanche, who allowed five goals on 23 shots (.783 save percentage). Koehn Ziemmer got on the board first for Prince George at 4:07 of the second after Sanche turned the puck over behind his net. Borya Valis got ahold of the puck and sent it out front to Ben Riche, who centered it to Ziemmer. The tally tied Ziemmer for the Cougars franchise goals record (120).

Prince George doubled its lead with a power-play goal from Jett Lajoie at 6:30 of the second, and in the blink of an eye, the Silvertips were down 4-0 after allowing two more goals 30 seconds apart later in the period.

First, Valis ripped a one-timer from behind the left circle on a 3-on-2 rush to make it 3-0 at 15:02. The Cougars capitalized on another 3-on-2 rush at 15:32, with Riley Heidt corralling the puck in the high slot and beating Sanche.

Everett winger Carter Bear spoiled the shutout for Ravensbergen (33 saves) on the power play at 9:18 of the third period with his 38th goal of the season, but Riche tacked on the Cougars’ fifth goal at 13:04 to restore the four-goal lead. The Silvertips outshot Prince George 14-3 in the final frame.

Everett 3, Victoria 2

It was the ‘Jamieson Show’ in Victoria on Monday. The 19-year-old defenseman netted his second career WHL hat trick, scoring a goal in each period to set up a bounce-back win for the Silvertips.

Jamieson opened the scoring at 13:49 of the first period, sending a pass from winger Caine Wilke to the top right corner from behind the left circle. Everett doubled its lead at 7:37 of the second period when MacKenzie fed Jamieson from the goal line for a power-play one-timer in front.

The Royals cut the deficit to 2-1 at 9:57 with a goal from Teydon Trembecky, and Brandon Lisowsky tied it at 10:10 of the third period.

But it was Jamieson again to save the day with less than six minutes remaining. MacKenzie’s elevated dump-in went straight to Victoria defenseman Landon Young, who batted it forward with his hand and toward Jamieson at the right point. The Calgary Flames’ 2024 sixth-rounder quickly sent a wrister through traffic and lobbed the puck just inside the left post to complete the hat trick and score the game-winner at 14:03.

Three Stars of the Week:

First Star: Eric Jamieson. The 19-year-old defenseman highlighted the week with his hat trick on Monday, and the Silvertips needed all three of his goals to secure the win over Victoria. He also added an empty-net goal in Friday’s win against Prince George.

Second Star: Raiden LeGall. The 18-year-old goaltender put up strong performances in both of his appearances this week, collectively stopping 47-of-50 shots (.940 save percentage) in the wins on Friday and Monday. He also notched an assist on Friday, marking the first point of his Silvertips career.

Third Star: Landon DuPont. The 15-year-old defenseman scored a big goal in Friday’s win — earning Second Star of the Game — and tallied an assist on Everett’s lone goal in Saturday’s loss.

The week ahead:

The Silvertips return to Angel of the Winds Arena on Friday for the first time in what will be 19 days to host Portland before traveling to Kent in a road matchup against Seattle on Saturday for a light weekend set. Everett is 4-1-0-0 against Portland this season, and 5-0-0-1 against Seattle.
