Top 25 men’s basketball roundup

AUSTIN, Texas — Freshman Avery Bradley scored 17 points, leading six Texas players in double figures, and the No. 2 Longhorns routed Long Beach State 107-74 on Monday night.

After two games of some offensive struggles, Texas (7-0) scored a season high, shot 59 percent and had 33 points off 23 turnovers by Long Beach State.

Point guard Dogus Balbay, making just his second start of the season, had a career-high 11 assists.

Stephan Gilling scored 19 points to lead Long Beach State (4-4).

Texas got its best production of the season out of a freshman class considered by many the top group in the country. Among them, Bradley was ranked the top recruit in the class. Jordan Hamilton finished with 13 points and J’Covan Brown scored 13, making three 3-pointers.

No. 12 Michigan St. 69, Citadel 56

CHARLESTON, S.C. — Kalin Lucas had 17 points and Michigan State withstood the Citadel’s strong shooting from 3-point range.

The Spartans (7-2) didn’t count on the long-range threat. The Bulldogs (6-5) made their first seven 3-point attempts and finished 12 of 20 for the game.

Michigan State held the Bulldogs to two baskets over the last eight minutes to pull away.

Cameron Wells had 16 points to lead Citadel, which fell to 0-34 against ranked opponents.

No. 16 Texas A&M 75, North Texas 65

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Donald Sloan scored 21 points to lead four Texas A&M players in double figures.

Bryan Davis added 15 points, David Loubeau scored 12 and Derrick Roland had 10 for the Aggies (8-1), who have won four straight.

Eric Tramiel led the Mean Green (5-3) with 17 points.
