Every day this week, The Herald will take a look at some of the top prospects in the draft. Today features defensive backs:

Cornerbacks

1, Antrel Rolle (Miami) 2, Adam Jones (W.Virginia) 3, Carlos Rogers (Auburn) 4, Justin Miller (Clemson) 5, Fabian Washington (Nebraska) The skinny: This is a deep group, with as many as five guys slated to go in Round 1. Rolle and Jones are possible top-10 picks. Seahawks’ slant: Despite the addition of free agent Kelly Herndon, the Seahawks will be looking for help. There is very little depth, especially when considering the injury woes of veteran Bobby Taylor.

Safety

1, Thomas Davis (Georgia) 2, Brodney Pool (Oklahoma) 3, Josh Bullocks (Nebraska) 4, Oshiomogho Atogwe (Stanford) 5, Donte Nicholson (Oklahoma) The skinny: Davis and Pool, both underclassmen, are the only two likely to be considered in Round 1. There’s not many prospects who look like they’ll make immediate contributions. Seahawks’ slant: Seattle’s starters came out of the second rounds of the past two drafts: Ken Hamlin (2003) and Michael Boulware (2004). A lack of depth could force the Seahawks to draft another one, although it’s unlikely to happen in the second round again. Tomorrow: Defensive linemen.
