Tough defense propels E-W past Lynnwood, 62-33

LYNNWOOD — Edmonds-Woodway had an awfully tough defense Tuesday night.

Lynnwood might have too, but it never got a chance to show it.

Edmonds-Woodway put everything it had into getting stops, then raced as quickly as it could to the other end for one fast-break after another in a 62-33 Wesco South boys basketball win.

“We were really working hard to control the game with our defense and that created a lot of offense,” E-W head coach Gail Pintler said. “They did very well with that. We got to the other end pretty quickly.”

Eleven players scored in the contest for the Warriors, yet none of them had more than Sean Laue’s 10 points. Connor Donaldson and James Conti added nine.

Edmonds-Woodway took command early on, as it gave up just four points in the first period and four more in the second period to grab a 29-8 halftime lead.

“They weren’t getting very good looks and they were taking quick shots at times,” Pintler said. “We did a nice job of holding them to one shot and then someone getting a hand on the ball and getting it up the court to score.”

The Warriors’ lead grew to 30 points by the end of the third quarter, before the final result improved them to 3-1 in the Wesco South.

Simi Fajemisin led Lynnwood with seven points.
