The Seahawks practiced for the first time without a crowd this morning, and they also took the field for the second straight practice without linebacker Aaron Curry.
Curry sat out yesterday’s practice with headaches after getting, “dinged up” according to Pete Carroll.
Several veterans were also given the morning off, including quarterback Matt Hasselbeck, safety Lawyer Milloy and receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh.Carroll said he’ll give some veterans a rest on two-a-days, so this hardly comes as a surprise, and I’m expecting all three will be back on the field this afternoon, while another player or two—Deion Branch perhaps—will take the afternoon off.
Tackle Ray Willis was also out, most likely getting a rest as well. With him sitting and Russell Okung still unsigned, that meant Mansfield Wrotto was the first-team left tackle. Yikes.
With Hasselbeck taking a break, that meant more reps for Charlie Whitehurst and J.P. Losman. Whitehurst, who struggled during Saturday afternoon’s practice, then looked better Sunday, had some nice throws, but also still seems to be taking a long time to get rid of the ball, leading to a several throw-aways or plays being blown dead. As of now, it looks like he’ll have to fight to win the backup job.
