Tuesday saw a pair of players joining the team and one departure. With school starting a pair of freshmen walk-ons were added. Conrad Remington, a 6-foot, 235-pound defensive lineman, joins the team from Omaha North High School in Omaha, Neb. Nate Thramer, a 6-1, 195-pound linebacker, is from Bellevue and played at Seattle Prep.
Leaving the team was reserve offensive lineman Ryan Bush. Bush was in competition at the beginning of the year for the backup center job, but lost that role to Matt Sedillo.
Jason Wells, who injured his knee against USC, was on crutches at this afternoon’s practice. Tyrone Willingham said again today that the injury is probably long term.
During the weekly Pac-10 coaches’ conference call, USC coach Pete Carroll didn’t seem to want to give Washington any credit for the Trojan’s struggles.
“I don’t want to take anything away from them, but we were off,” he said. “When you have nine offensive penalties at the line of scrimmage and holding, that has nothing to do with the other guys. That might have to do with the environment, but not with the other team. We were playing the Trojans the other day and we were pretty tough on us.”
One of the big topics from last weekend’s game was the hard (and sometimes late) hits on Jake Locker.
The media met with Locker today, and he said he was feeling fine other than a few bumps and bruises. As for the late hit handed out by USC’s Shareece Wright, Locker didn’t seem too bothered by the play.
“I thought it was a little bit late, but it’s football, you’re going to get hit,” he said. “So no hard feelings.
When asked about Carroll’s complaints about the call, Locker said, “Everybody’s got their own opinion and I guess he’s entitled to his.”
And speaking of that hit, Wright wasn’t apologetic for it in this L.A. Times article. If you missed the game, or just want to see it again, here’s the link to the youtube clip.
