After a slow start to the season, the Phoenix Mercury continued their recent good play on Tuesday with a 101-82 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks.
Phoenix has now won six of its last seven games to improve to 6-4, good enough for third place in the Western Conference, a half game behind the Minnesota Lynx for second and a game and a half behind the San Antonio Silver Stars for first.
Diana Taurasi and Candice Dupree each scored 20 points to lead the Mercury.
Ebony Hoffman scored 21 points to lead L.A., who have lost all five of its road games this season. The Sparks, who are without Candace Parker for about six weeks, fell to 4-5 on the season.
The Chicago Sky ended their three-game losing streak on Tuesday with a 78-65 victory over the Washington Mystics.
Chicago’s Sylvia Fowles scored a season-high 34 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to help the Sky improve to 5-6.
Marissa Coleman had 14 points to lead the Mystics (2-7).
In Tuesday’s other game, the Indiana Fever beat the Seattle Storm 78-61 to maintain the best record in the Eastern Conference.
