VANCOUVER – Two goals within four minutes helped the Sultan Turks advance to the 2A state semifinals.
Sultan, 2-1 winners over Ridgefield at McKenzie Stadium Saturday, will face fellow North Cascades Conference member Meridian at 10 a.m. Friday at Federal Way Stadium.
After 34 minutes of scoreless play, Sultan captured the lead when Heather Howard passed the ball through the Ridgefield defense to Mindy Cramer, who tucked it into the back of the net.
Four minutes later, Sultan ran a set play off a free kick from 25 yards out that freed up Stephanie Savelesky, who hit a crossing ball into the box. Howard then headed the ball into the back of the net for the eventual game-winning goal.
Ridgefield scored in the 60th minute.
