NEW YORK – Kevin Durant and Jeff Green of the Seattle SuperSonics have been named to the 2007-08 NBA All-Rookie Team, the league announced Tuesday.
Durant, the 2007-08 Rookie of the Year, received 57 points in voting by the league’s head coaches. He finished second in the balloting to Atlanta forward Al Horford, who was a unanimous pick with 58 points. Green received 43 points.
Joining them on the first team were Houston’s Luis Scola (53) and the Los Angeles Clippers’ Al Thornton (48).
The coaches were asked to select five players for the first team and five players for the second team, regardless of position. They were not permitted to vote for players on their own team. Two points were awarded for a first-team vote and one for a second-team vote.
Durant averaged a team-high 20.3 points per game to lead all rookies. He was the only rookie to lead his team in five statistical categories (points, blocks, steals, free throws made and free -throw percentage).
Horford ranked first among rookies in double doubles (25) and rebounds (9.7 per game). Among first year players, Horford also finished sixth in scoring (10.1 ppg).
Green averaged 10.5 points per game, fourth among the league’s rookies.
The All-Rookie second team included Jamario Moon of Toronto (38), Juan Carlos Navarro of Memphis (24), Thaddeus Young of Philadelphia (23), Rodney Stuckey of Detroit (22) and Carl Landry of Houston (18). Stuckey is a former Eastern Washington University standout.
