SEATTLE _ A pair of teams with one eye on the NCAA tournament _ Washington State is hoping to get on the bubble, while Washington is attempting to stay off it _ looked nothing like contenders through 20 minutes Sunday night.
The Huskies and Cougars combined to shoot 26 percent from the field while turning the ball over a total of 19 times, resulting in a 24-17 WSU lead at halftime.
It marked the lowest point total UW has scored in a half this season _ and the lowest total of Lorenzo Romar’s nine-year tenure at the school. The Huskies hit just 8 of 36 shots from the field and 1 of 13 from 3-point range.
Big man Matthew Bryan-Amaning, who was 1-for-8 from the field in a previous meeting with WSU, has missed all five of his shots through the first half of Sunday’s game. His teammates haven’t done much better, with Justin Holiday’s five points leading the way.
The only reason the Huskies haven’t been blown out is because WSU looks just as pathetic offensively. The Cougars are 8 of 25 from the field but have made six foul shots _ six more than UW.
WSU’s Klay Thompson leads all scorers with eight points.
