TACOMA— Tarren VanTrojen scored 16 points and Taylor Myers added 14, including three 3-pointers, to lead undefeated Enumclaw to a 49-43 first-round win over Meadowdale Wednesday at the Class 3A boys basketball tournament.
The Hornets (25-0) trailed just once early and led by as many as 19 points in the second quarter. The Mavericks (19-7), who played in the 3A semifinals last year, got to within three points several times late in the game, the last time with 1:09 to go, but couldn’t get any closer. Riley Carel scored eight points, including two free throws to ice the game late.
Meadowdale shot just 24.5 percent from the field (13 of 53) but stayed close thanks to a 43-23 advantage on the boards. Connor Hamlett, a 6-foot-7 senior, led the Mavericks with 18 points and 15 rebounds. Riley Neff-Warner chipped in 12 for the Mavericks.
